About Snap Theology

Jaya and I (James) have had a passion for the Church and for seeking God our entire Christian lives. We can all engage ourselves in pursuing God and we can all passionately worship God, but if you’re not actively engaging your mind in the study of God and scripture, you’re missing out on a huge area of what it means to be a Christian. I remember towards the end of my Bible College Diploma sitting in an information session about the degree programme that the college offered. The lecturer stood there and openly admitted that his job was to ‘sell’ the course to us, and although I had little intention of studying theology academically, he made a statement that would forever change my life.

“Theology is worship with your mind.”

I sat there and realised that it was an area of worshiping God that I had never really contemplated before. I started to ask questions and realised that it was something so important that I had to pursue the journey of theological study. An Advanced Diploma, Bachelors in Ministry, and Masters of Applied Theology later and I’m just as passionate about pursuing God and seeing others start the journey of learning theology.

How Snap Theology Started

A trend started occuring in 2019 that made us both realise the need for Snap theology. Let me paint the picture for your…

**Jaya and James sitting watching TV of an evening, James is struggling to keep his eyes open and Jaya turns to him.**

Jaya: “Do we go to heaven when we die?” (OR INSERT: How do I know I’m saved?, How do I know God is speaking to me?, Why is homosexuality such a controversial topic in the church?, What’s the purpose of life and what does it mean to be a disciple?, Why does the Bible say that women shouldn’t preach in church? etc.).

James (trying to think of a quick answer, while trying to keep his eyes open): “(Insert short, horrible answer)”

Jaya: “(Insert follow up question)”

James: “Maybe we should talk about this when I’m more awake.”

You get the picture!

The truth is though that we all have questions, and if we don’t have questions, then there’s a problem and void in the way we have a relationship with God through our minds. It’s wise to ask good questions and find some answers through scripture, while being guided by the Holy Spirit.

Therefore, knowing that everyone has questions and might feel awkward about asking them, we started the idea for a Podcast and an accompanying website/blog etc. to answer those questions, instill excitement in studying theology, and enrich peoples discipleship journeys.
